Working Across Sectors & Disciplines

At the heart of Emerging Minds has been an aim to foster collaborations across sectors and disciplines. Below you can find out more about the ways in which we did this – from hosting cross-sector placements and podcasts, to supporting interdisciplinary Special Interest Research Groups, events, and internships. All our efforts, and the efforts of so many network members, culminated in our Big Emerging Minds Summit in October 2022.

Cross-Sector Placements

We hosted 4 cross-sector placements with the NSPCC, SHOUT, Centre for Mental Health, and the Embracing Complexity Coalition.

Special Interest Research Groups

We supported 19 special interest research groups to develop partnerships, lead priority setting work, and move research ideas forward.

Policy Engagement Week

We held events and a twitter campaign in June 2022 encouraging people to engage with the government call for evidence and other policy makers.

Mental Health Museum Workshop

We hosted a workshop for early career researchers on interdisciplinary approaches to children and young people's mental health, alongside the McPin Young People's Network.

Design, Research & Practice Internship

In summer 2021 we hosted a cross-disciplinary internship alongside the Department of Typography and Graphic Communication at the University of Reading where Keili Koppel explored how design-led approaches can encourage new ways of thinking around mental health research.
